There is a saying about less being more, and 30.5m sailing yacht Chrisco might just stand as testament to this.
A multi-award winner – as well as one of the most iconic yachts ever built by French yard CNB - she is minimalist not only in her ultra-modern interior, but also on deck, where daring technical solutions such as concealing the halyard winches beneath carbon panels in the deck have led to the creation of an unmistakably sleek, uncluttered profile.
The glazed coach roof of yacht Chrisco, with its 75 panels of laminated glass, not only gives her a futuristic appearance but allows natural light to flood into her uber-modern interior spaces, lighting up her monochromatic white and black design.
In keeping with her functional design, the layout provides practicality, with each of her beds doubling as sofas, allowing for the spaces to be fully utilized even with fewer guests on board.
And as comfortable as yacht Chrisco is, it is impossible to forget her impressive sailing yacht pedigree: the rig is ever visible through the axial glazing. Sailing yacht Chrisco might be minimalist in design but sailing aboard her is a lifestyle.
Naval architect comments
The CNB 100 sloop, built at CNB Bordeaux, is a further step in our design work of sailing yachts, as the main impressive feature is that the entire coach-roof/coaming geometry has been made completely in glass.
From our perspective, we have taken on this wonderful challenge and we have worked on the entire external design starting from the main concept that glass panels are typically flat. Thus, we developed a blended continuous surface built up of several panels which, in our idea, must be seen as a completely separated object from the rest of the boat. In fact, the actual sharp edge glass volume seems that extend below deck clearly separating the hull and deck geometry, typically rounded. Or, the other way around, the coach-roof seems to “grow” out from the complete hull/deck volume.
This effect has been achieved by carefully designing the glass/deck intersection, where the glass disappears below.
Along with this theme, we have studied others “added” volumes with similar sharp or chamfer detail. So, the bulwark, typical of our previous projects, has turned into a clearer edge's definition. Same thing for the steering pedestal or the transom which also show an intersection of flat surfaces.
